When is the best time to visit Lanzarote?

The best time to come to Lanzarote is an age-old question and will depend entirely on what you plan to do, as well as your budget. But here are a few tips to help you decide.

SUMMER

Summer is the hottest season on Lanzarote, the sea is warm, and the island holds many of its favourite fiestas during these months.

However, summer heat can be fierce, and it is also the windiest time of year. School holidays also mean that summer is the most expensive season for holidaymakers.

If you like intense sunshine, fun and a buzzing atmosphere, there’s no beating summer, but if you prefer things a little more laid back it’s well worth exploring other times of year.

AUTUMN

Many Lanzarote lovers rate autumn on the island higher than any other season. It’s a time of glorious mellow sunshine, warm inviting seas and calm, still weather.

It’s a time when a lot of the island gets back to work or school after the summer season so, while there’s not always a lot of things going on, you’ll find the island much less crowded and far more peaceful. It’s a healing time, when the island recovers its strength after summer.

WINTER

The weather isn’t so predictable in the months from December to February and the chance of rain, winds and calimas is higher. Nevertheless, such conditions are still uncommon, and you’re still highly likely to experience plenty of sunshine.

Christmas on Lanzarote is a delightful time, full of festive events, twinkling lights and a lengthy, laid-back attitude that is very different to the frantic rush elsewhere. Meanwhile, the end of winter brings the unique explosion of colour and rhythm that is carnival.

SPRING

Spring can be the loveliest time on the island, but a lot of that charm relies on rainfall. If you’re very lucky, you’ll arrive shortly after a storm and see the island burst into a beautiful paradise of wildflowers and greenery. The possibility of light showers also means this is rainbow time.

For walkers, cyclists and sightseers, spring is when the island’s countryside is at its most gorgeous, and the weather is still not hot enough to make outdoor activities uncomfortable.
