Guardia Civil have confirmed that the tethered object reported floating 200 metres off the coast of Puerto del Carmen did not contain drugs.
Emergency services initially reported that a fardo (bundle or bale ) had been retrieved from the sea, raising suspicions that it could contain drugs. However, it was later confirmed to be a large water bottle tethered to a rope.
Bottles are frequently used as makeshift buoys around the coast. However, sources claim that occupants of the boat who jettisoned the buoy will be reported for entering the bathing zone.
