The project to install high-tension electricity pylons linking Macher and Playa Blanca has started, Yaiza Ayuntamiento has confirmed.
The controversial project initially proposed that 53 pylons measuring between 29 and 50 metres in height would be erected on a 17-kilometre stretch that would include Femes and the Ajaches Natural Park area.
Construction of pylons has already started on the stretch from Playa Blanca to the foot of the Ajaches volcanoes.
The César Manrique Foundation described the project as “an unacceptable initiative… which will seriously attack Lanzarote’s landscape and natural heritage.”
As a result, efforts have been made to bury the cables on the stretch between Maciot and Las Casitas de Femes. Avoiding pylons near the villages. Yaiza Ayuntamiento has confirmed that this its aim, although meetings to ensure that it can be carried out are still ongoing.
