The Rojillos (the reds) have had a fabulous season, competing with three other sides to top the Tercera division (fifth tier) and claim the only automatic promotion place. However, four points out of a possible nine in their last three outings has seen them lose pace with the leaders. Ian lane reports.

A play-off spot was assured many weeks ago, but four teams have shared that top spot during the course of the campaign and with six league matches remaining, Lanzarote are in fourth position – eight points adrift from league leaders CD Tenerife B with a game in hand.

Even if it’s a bridge too far for the Rojillos they can still have a big say in who will be the league winners as they still have to play second-placed UD Las Palmas B, who trail the leaders by three points with a game in hand and better goal difference.

U.S. Yaiza are in third position and are just one point behind UD Las Palmas B, also with that game in hand on the leaders. But their final two matches are against CD Tenerife B and – yes, you’ve guessed it – local rivals UD Lanzarote.

A final day derby match on the 12th of May, scheduled for 11am (please check), will end the league season with the playoffs beginning one week later. This match has the potential to be one of the most important matches ever in local football history.

Lanzarote had some very special guests at their 2-1 home win versus Arucas CF on the 7th of April – Harry Kane´s mother Kim, Grandmother Brenda and his two nephews. The England captain’s mother regularly visits Lanzarote and thoroughly enjoyed her day out with her family watching the Rojillos.

The stadium is easy to get to as the central bus station is only 100m away and buses run regularly. Parking is easy outside the stadium on Sundays. Tickets can be bought at the gate on match day but to avoid queues they are also available in our merchandise shop in Costa Teguise (details below but please pay entrance tickets with cash).

FORTHCOMING HOME FIXTURES
Normally it is Sunday at 12 noon but please check.

MAY 1ST: LANZAROTE V CD HERBANIA

MAY 12TH: LANZAROTE V U.S. YAIZA (11AM PLEASE CHECK)

WHERE TO BUY CLUB MERCHANDISE?

Go to Lanzarote Football Club (Facebook page) or www.mercancialanzarote.com for info, season ticket & membership details etc. All shirts and other merchandise can be bought at the Teguise market stall on Sundays; online at www.mercancialanzarote.com/shop/ or at the shop in Costa Teguise, which is based at Centro Comercial Nautical, local 25 (up from Decades bar and behind Café Bonjour). The shop is open Mon to Fri 10am to 1pm.
