A Tik Tok influencer and “mermaider” from Gibraltar has been criticised after posting a video of herself getting into serious difficulties in the rock pools of Lanzarote.
Domaris Pany, who uses the name Hippìe Domaris online, has over 800,000 Tik Tok followers for her mermaiding videos, which involve swimming with a large mermaid’s “tail” made of fabric over the legs and without a face-mask.
Arriving on Lanzarote to film various videos, she and her colleague decided to head to Los Charcones, the wild rock pools between Playa Blanca and Janubio. However, while filming in one of the pools there, a large wave broke over the natural wall, leaving them in severe difficulties. The influencer lost her tail in the strong current, and it was her colleague who managed to stop her being swept out to the open sea.
She posted the video anyway, warning followers to “respect the ocean”. After criticism, she posted another video, saying she had published the video “so that others would see my error and not imitate me.”
