The storm that arrived on Lanzarote yesterday was not as strong as expected, although it did bring rain, hail, thunder, and lightning to many parts of the island.

Lanzarote’s wine country got plenty of the rain it so badly needed as a patchy storm soaked some areas of the island and barely dampened others.  However, tourists received disappointing news as today’s market at Teguise was cancelled.  UD Lanzarote’s important home game against UD Las Palmas Atlético has also been suspended.

Tinajo received the most rain, with 25 litres falling by 9 pm, while inland Tías received 14 litres. Costa Teguise and San Bartolomé saw around 7 litres of rainfall each, while Arrecife experienced one heavy shower and further light rain bringing around 3 litres. Playa Blanca barely registered any rainfall, and the register for Haría was also minimal.

Some brief floods meant that some roads were closed, and some homes experienced power cuts, but the storm did not cause major damage.

A yellow alert issued by Spain’s weather agency AEMET remains in place until midnight tonight.

The official forecast for today is “Cloudy intervals with rain that may be in the form of occasionally heavy showers and accompanied by storms. This will subside in the afternoon when slightly cloudy skies will predominate. Temperatures to remain the same or rise slightly. Light to moderate westerly wind turning north-westerly in the afternoon.

Predicted minimum and maximum temperatures (°C): 15 – 22.
