Our readers regularly send us messages and emails regarding Lanzarote, here are some of your thoughts that we printed in the October edition.

Readers are reminded that views and comments expressed within the Ed’s Postbag page are those of the contributors and may not necessarily reflect the opinions or standpoint of our staff. It should also be noted that we are an independent publication free from political persuasion or governmental censorship.

COVER UP

Dear Editor,

I am by no means a prude, but I find it unacceptable that women wander the streets in nothing more than skimpy bikinis. Are there any plans to tighten up on this and similar behaviour as I think other places have.

Regards

C Willers

Ed: The only place on Lanzarote with rules against public nudity is Teguise, and this only likely to be enforced in rural areas such as village churches.

CHARCO MADNESS

Dear Editor,

The idea of putting jetties and mooring points for the boats in Charco de San Ginés in Arrecife is crazy. Every single day tourists stop to take photos of the pretty boats bobbing in the lagoon, – it’s probably the most popular sight in the capital.

Is the idea to make some money from charging mooring fees? If so, it may be worth thinking about what will be lost, too.

Yours,

Carol P via Email

Ed: So far, it’s only an idea, Carol. Local fishing and sports associations have been complaining about clutter in the Charco for years, and they, along with local residents and businesses, will certainly be involved in any final decision.

CARNIVAL QUERY

Dear Gazette Life,

Can you tell me the date of the carnival in Puerto del Carmen in February 2024?

Many thanks.

Conway

Ed: It hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but the PDC carnival is always on the Saturday after Shrove Tuesday, so it’ll be the 17th February, next year. Arrecife’s big parade should be on the 12th February, while the parades in Costa Teguise, Haría and Playa Blanca usually take place on successive Saturdays following Puerto del Carmen’s parade, but be sure to confirm closer to the date.

WATER WORRIES

Why has the water company Canal Gestión put the water pressure up in Costa Teguise and Arrecife? I have had burst pipes ten times. resulting in high bills!

My friends in Arrecife have also had this problem. What’s going on? Can they not resolve this issue?

Maggie Adams

Ed: Canal Gestión claim to be addressing the problems caused by damaged pipes and a breakdown of a desalination plant and issued warnings of variable pressure throughout August and September. Any claims should be addressed to them, or via the President of your community association.
