Lanzarote representatives have arrived at the World Travel Fair in London, one of the biggest dates on the travel calendar, to reinforce the island’s tourist recovery with its most important market.
The President of Lanzarote’s Cabildo, Maria Dolores Corujo, said “At the Cabildo we’re committed to the recovery of tourism and capturing Premium markets, which will be sensitive to sustainability and attracted by the unique idiosyncrasies of Lanzarote.”
Corujo revealed that the Lanzarote contingent has 30 meetings lined up with tour operators, airlines and other tourism specialists, most of which relate to the vital British market.
The Lanzarote representative yesterday met with Spain’s Tourism Minister, Reyes Maroto and the Canarian Minister, Yaiza Castilla. Unfortunately, Lanzarote ‘s own head of Tourist Promotion, Ángel Vázquez, has been unable to attend the fair due to exceptional circumstances.
Lanzarote leads the Canaries in the increase in new flights, and the British market has been key to that. Yaiza Castilla yesterday said that the British had “A huge desire to escape from their cold winter,” as she announced a 12.5% increase in British flights to the Canaries.
Lanzarote’s winter season already looks healthy, with 1.415.648 seats on flights available between November 2021 and April 2022. This is a 20% rise on the last pre-Covid winter season of 2019-20.
César Manrique Airport will see 555 flights a week over the winter season, an increase from the 515 in 2019/20. These flights will connect the island with 86 airports in 19 countries.
