La Graciosa launched “Covid-free” tourism last month, as ferry company Líneas Romero restarted 10 daily routes between Órzola and the island.

The Citizens’ Participation department of Teguise Ayuntamiento has been giving training courses and talks relating to virus prevention to bars, restaurants, transport and tourism businesses on La Graciosa. The island has so far not registered a single case of coronavirus, and is the only Canary Island to remain free of infection.

Alicia Páez of Teguise Ayuntamiento said “our aim is that we all walk hand-in-hand towards reactivating the island’s economy… ensuring that visitors arrive on La Graciosa free of the virus, and that they also leave without it.”

In the rest of the Canaries, Binter Airlines is operating over 100 daily flights from 1st July, and all seven Canary Islands are promoting inter island tourism. With a shortage of international tourists, local residents who are lucky enough to have the funds for holidays could be facing a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to enjoy the Canaries at their least crowded.
