Our fantastic cover photo shows Sergey Korsakov and his wife Elena on the beach at Famara. It’s a perfect image of the freedom and beauty of the island, and the optimism and joy of love. We chatted to Sergey about the story behind the shot.
Sergey Korsakov moved from Russia to Paris eight years ago, but it was only three years ago that he first visited Lanzarote. “I was in a relationship at the time, and my partner was absolutely fed up after the Covid lockdowns, so we booked a holiday on Lanzarote,” he says.
Sadly, by the time the holiday came around the couple had broken up. “So, I decided to come to the island on my own, anyway,”
Newly-single, Sergey had a wonderful time on the island, and among the new friends he met were Sabrina and Rens from Lanzarote Photography. “I wanted some good images from such a beautiful island, so I hired them to do a photo-shoot.”
The shoot took place in various picturesque parts of Lanzarote, including the mystical beauty of Famara beach, and Sergey was hugely pleased with the result. “One of the reasons I booked the shoot was to get some good pictures for my profile on a dating site, and I promised that, if they worked and I got married, I’d come back to the island and recreate the photos, this time with my new partner.”
The plan worked, and Sergey was soon involved with a woman called Elena, from St Petersburg. “A few months later, we got married,” smiles Sergey, “and I decided to keep my word.”
In October 2022, he organised a return trip to Lanzarote and booked another session with Lanzarote Photography. They visited the same sites as before but this time, Sergey was not alone. “Lanzarote changed both our lives,” Sergey says.
The couple have just moved into a new flat in Paris, but Sergey says he can’t wait to get back to Lanzarote again. “I fell in love with it,” he says, “And I also fell in love because of it.”
