Teguise Ayuntamiento have started to prune the palm trees along the Avenida de Las Palmeras in Costa Teguise – something that residents have complained about for months.
The pruning, which aims to beautify and clean the entrance to the resort, will last all week and leave one of the lanes closed in the early hour of the morning until compete.
Teguise Ayuntamiento, in collaboration with Gestión del Medio Rural de Canarias and the Cabildo, has also begun the study to control and eradicate the diocalandra frumenti, a species of small beetle that affects the palm trees of the municipality.
Teguise Councillor, Nieves Martínez, has shown her concern for the state of the palm trees in the face of this pest and recognises “the importance of keeping them cared for with preventive pruning and phytosanitary control”.
Martinez also stated that she is “very satisfied with the work being carried out by the municipal workers who are improving the appearance of the main entrances to Costa Teguise”.
Teguise Mayor, Olivia Duque, stated “Our goal is to continue developing actions to keep our towns clean and health and thus improve the quality of life of our residents.”
