Of course the Christmas festivities continue here in January with the celebration of Día de los Reyes (King’s Day) on January 6th and the procession of the Three Wise Men the day before.
And after all that celebrating, Lanzarote is the perfect place to head to one of the many beaches here and top up your tan. The UV here, even in winter, remains at around 6 which is still high on the UV index so you could still burn quite easily and you do need to stay sun safe – on cloudy days in midwinter!
January skies usually bring plenty of sunshine and the promise of a bright New Year sees many winter sun seekers arriving on the island. As in December the evenings are cooler so be sure to have a fleece and maybe a pair of jeans ready for the night time.
Last year we had a lovely January: the first two weeks were dry and bright and I even filmed a weather report whilst paragliding 100 metres above Playa Quemada in the first week, and then from the 458-metre summit of the Caldera Blanca in Week 2. It was not until Week 3 that we saw some rain and on the whole it was a pretty dry winter. Usually we would expect 40-45 mm of rain, but the winter of 2017-18 saw just 15mm, and that was mainly from the end of October and November.
